For Immediate Release
January 3, 2014
MATHER, CA – BloodSource, not-for-profit since 1948, has been asked to help East Coast blood centers in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Tennessee due to severe winter storms. BloodSource – due to generous BloodSource blood donors – is able to help blood centers whose collections have been disrupted due to transportation issues and risk of power outages.
Leslie Botos, BloodSource Vice President of Public Affairs, states, "During times of crisis – great and small – is when blood donors are needed. We are able to help across the country with the support of generous blood donors." Botos adds that BloodSource communications, collection and distribution channels are well established to help patients and blood centers throughout the U.S.
Schedule your blood donation now since the East Coast may require help for the near future. Especially needed are platelet donations of all blood types, Type O- red blood cell donors (the universal blood donor) and males with Type AB blood for plasma donations.
BloodSource blood donors quickly come to the aid of those in need whether close to home or across the country. As the East Coast recovers, blood collections will resume and BloodSource will help as we are able until normal blood collections resume and blood inventories recover.
Platelets are a critical blood component used by many patients including those in cancer treatment or those with traumatic injuries and are viable for only five days.
Please call 866.822.5663 or visit bloodsource.org to learn more about eligibility for different types of blood donation – whole blood (red cells), platelets and plasma. BloodSource asks blood donors to donate what they can give and what is needed today.
Together, we do save lives.
