For Immediate Release
October 26, 2015
Davis, CA – Local students and residents can save lives and prove which regional university reigns supreme by donating blood during the Eighth Annual Causeway Classic Blood Drive. The Causeway Classic Blood Drive is a friendly competition between rival schools University of California, Davis and Sacramento State University as students, staff and administrators roll up their sleeves to see which university can collect the most blood. At the end of the competition period (Oct. 20 – Nov. 5), the school with the most registered blood donors wins.
An on-campus blood drive will be held at UC Davis on the East and West Quad during November 3 – 4, from 10:00am – 5:00pm. BloodSource will also offer a free Be The Match® marrow registry for those ages 18-44 years old, providing another way to save lives. Blood drive participants will receive a FREE T-shirt and MyBloodSource Rewards.
UC Davis leads the series with four victorious years compared to Sacramento State’s three years. In 2014, more than 3,300 participants supported both schools, with UC Davis defeating Sacramento State by a narrow margin of 11 donors. Participants can also support UC Davis by giving blood at any BloodSource donor center or mobile blood drive between Oct. 20 and Nov. 5. Donors can inform BloodSource staff that they wish to support UC Davis' donor club 1735, and their donation will be noted.
